George Lam says modern music doesn't have a lot of message

30 Apr – Although he doesn't think that the Hong Kong music scene is dead, veteran singer George Lam recently stated that the music nowadays has changed a lot from when he was active in the industry.

The singer, who sat down for an interview to promote his upcoming concert "LAMusical 2019", believes that modern songs don't seem to know "what to say".

"In the past, every song has its own message. Nowadays, you don't know what they are trying to say. You just sing it and add some dance to it. It's a pity," he said.

George stated that the industry is also facing a shortage in talents when it comes to creating the songs itself.

"Singers should have their own uniqueness. They shouldn't follow the masses. For example, there are three young singers (Terence Siufay, Bianca Wu, Alex) who will be singing my songs at my concert. I told them not to imitate me, but to express their own feelings. We'll have something new this way," he said.

"LAMusical 2019" will be held from 3 to 7 May at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
