Genshin Impact, the game that truly loves to break the internet, has done yet another bombshell reveal that has left fans in a complete frenzy.

Aside from finally revealing the first batch of long-awaited Sumeru characters, developer HoYoverse also revealed all of the remaining Fatui Harbingers in a teaser released on Monday (11 July) titled “Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: A Winter Night’s Lazzo”.

In the teaser, we are greeted by a dark, gloomy atmosphere as all of the Harbingers (sans Scaramouche, who has betrayed the Fatui and taken the Raiden Shogun's Gnosis for himself) have gathered to mourn the death of La Signora, the Eighth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers.

We can also see the gnoses of both Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon, and Barbatos, the Anemo Archon laid out in a half-played Chess game.

This is followed by Pierro, the First Harbinger, moving a Knight piece to defeat a Pawn and saying that in this “war” the Tsaritsa has waged against the world, “not even a single pawn may be spared”.

This is a nice little tidbit that can be overlooked by some, but the Pyro crystalfly that lands on the fallen pawn denotes that the fallen pawn was Signora, or Rosalyne Lohefalter as they also called her.

The Knight piece signifies the Raiden Shogun, who slew La Signora in the Inazuma Archon Quest "Omnipresence Over Mortals".

The Harbingers gather around the casket of Signora to mourn her, but it seems not all is well between them, as there is a sort of animosity in the air among the comrades.

The chill in the air doesn’t seem to only come from Snezhnaya’s unforgiving winter. The Habringers have lost one of their own.

When was the last time they gathered all together like this? And, more importantly, who are they exactly, and what do we know of them so far?

Faces to the names

Tartaglia is the Eleventh of the Fatui Harbingers, though we all know him as Childe.

He was the one tasked with recovering the Geo Archon’s gnosis, but ultimately failed as Zhongli had instead signed away his Gnosis to La Signora in a contract.

He is also the first playable character to hail from Snezhnaya.

Dottore, also known as the Doctor, was first introduced in the Genshin Impact prequel manga. He is a mysterious and dangerous man who has been conducting violent and dangerous experiments on children like Collei using “Archon Residue” in pursuit of creating an enhanced human that could surpass the gods.

An interesting thing to note about Dottore is that he has the ability to split himself into different "Segments" that look like him in different stages of his life, perhaps explaining the difference between his appearance in the prequel manga and in the teaser.

We can make an educated guess that Dottore will take center stage as the main villain of the Sumeru chapters.

Not only is he stationed in the Nation of Wisdom, but his Segment "in the prime of his life" was also seen standing before a gigantic burning tree that Collei saw in a premonition at the end of the teaser.

Pantalone, Ninth of the Fatui Harbingers, also known as Regrator.

He is hinted to be the owner of the Northland Bank, and is the wealthiest of the harbingers and in charge of Snezhnaya’s economic policies.

Pantalone is also behind the plot to assassinate Uncle Tian and interfere in the election of the Tianshu of Liyue in Yelan’s story quest.

Pulcinella, also known as the Rooster, is the Fifth of the Fatui Harbingers.

He was first revealed in the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail, though much of his appearance was greatly obscured there.

He is also referred to as “the Mayor” by Pantalone, so we can assume that he is the mayor of Snezhnaya's capital and handles the nation's policies on behalf of the Tsaritsa, as he decrees a mourning period of “half-a-day” to mourn the loss of La Signora. (Also, just half-a-day? Harsh).

Arlecchino, also known as the Knave.

If you recall that secret quest we can get in Inazuma where the snappy shrine maiden Gendou Ringo in the Grand Narukami Shrine is involved, Arlecchino was revealed to be the owner of the orphanage where the Fatui “recruit” their soldiers.

Sandrone, also known as Marionette, is the little girl seated on the hand of what appears to be a modified Ruin Guard.

Columbina, also known as Damselette, is the long-haired girl first seen embracing the tomb of La Signora and singing the background music (well, at least someone's mourning her).

Capitano, also known as the Captain, is the tall, imposing man who wears a mask that obscures his entire face.

He notes that while Signora's "method’s tarnished her honor, Lohefalter’s sacrifice is a great pity. Her loss shall not hinder our progress".

In the Tales of Winter commission, the Fatui member Viktor said Capitano would be the Harbinger he would prefer to work for.

Finally, we have Pierro, also known as the Jester, the very first member of the Fatui and the First of the Fatui Harbingers.

He is responsible for recruiting most of the Harbingers to join their cause, including Signora, Scaramouche, Pantalone, and Dottore.

He is hinted at throughout the lore which can be found scattered across the continent of Teyvat.

It is most notable in the Pale Flame artifact set’s Mocking Mask circlet, which hints at his origins and why he became a Fatuus.

With his left eye having the same star-shaped pupils that Dainsleif and Kaeya have, we can surmise that Pierro was originally from Khaenri'ah before he began serving the Tsaritsa of Snezhnaya.

What are the Fatui Harbingers planning?

As we know, the Fatui Harbingers are after the Gnoses of the six other Archons of Teyvat, and have already acquired the Gnoses of the Archons of Mondstadt and Liyue.

They also initially controlled the Gnosis of the Archon of Inazuma, but Scaramouche betrayed his Fatui brethren and took it for himself.

From that, we can assume that the Harbingers are planning to retake the Gnosis of the Inazuma Archon from Scaramouche.

During the Labyrinth Warriors event, Tartaglia was revealed to be one of the Harbingers tasked with hunting down the rogue Scaramouche.

As mentioned above, it's also reasonable to expect that the Harbingers, most likely Dottore, will soon be making a move to take the Gnosis of the Archon of Sumeru.

But what will the Harbingers do with Gnoses?

In the beginning of the teaser, Pierro describes the "war" that the Fatui is waging as a chessboard where 'checkmate' is not where the game ends.

The First Harbinger later declares that "in the name of Her Majesty, the Tsaritsa, we will seize authority from the gods". He also makes a promise in front of La Signora's casket that her final resting place will be the entirety of the "Old World".

From Pierro's dialogue, we can surmise that the Fatui Harbingers are hunting for the Gnoses in order to use their powers to help the Tsaritsa launch a rebellion against Celestia, the ruling power in Teyvat that inhabits a floating city in the sky, and create a new world order.

With all that said, there is still much we do not know about the Fatui Harbingers as well as their plans and stories. But now that we know all their names and what they look like, we are more than excited to see them play their part in Genshin Impact's story.
