GEM Tang elated over GMA nomination
22 Jul – GEM Tang is elated over news that she has secured five nominations for the upcoming 31st Golden Melody Awards.
As reported on Mingpao, the Hong Kong singer who was shortlisted for Best Mandarin Female Singer, Album of the Year, Best Mandarin Album, Best Composer, and Song of the Year with her album "City Zoo", stated that she already feels like a winner after being given such recognition for her work.
"I hope that music can continue to encourage people who are going through ups and downs, and not to give up!" she said.
GEM, who faced a lot of obstacles after parting ways with Hummingbird Music in not-so cordial terms the previous year, stated that her said album was the record of her perseverance in surpassing the hurdles that include several lawsuits and negative press.
"This album is the first time I was a producer of my own album besides the song-writing. In fact, I often feel like drifting in the ocean, but maybe God wants me to learn to swim in the ocean, and I am still proud that I really tried my best to fight and survive, and I hope my parents and my fans will also be proud of it," she added.
Finally, she thanked the organiser, as well as everybody who continued to express their support for her throughout the tough times.
Fellow singers like Jolin Tsai and Mag Lam also took to the comments to congratulate GEM, with the former writing, "Proud of you, girl!"
