Welcome to Heat Check, a (semi)regular dose of much-needed style inspiration culled from the very best celebrity fit pics around.

Gavin Rossdale? *Takes a long drag of a cigarette* I haven't heard that name in years. No, like, I really haven't heard that name in years. Are there diehard Gavin Rossdale fans out there? If so, come gets your mans. He's killing it right now.

The British rocker was snapped in L.A. yesterday getting in a set or two ('tis the season, after all) looking like Nadal himself. To be honest, my tennis knowledge largely extends to peak-'90s Andre Agassi and his extremely good fits, and that's about it. But you don't have to be an expert-level enthusiast to appreciate what's going on here. Hell, you don't even have to be able to keep a straight face every time the announcer says "Deuce." (Dude, what the fuck is a "deuce?" I'm sorry, you can't make me take this sport seriously.)

But, and it gives me no pleasure to admit this, everything about this outfit works. Because Gavin Rossdale understands a fundamental truth crucial to nailing sports-ready attire as a non-professional athlete cosplaying as a professional athlete: never go full professional athlete. In other words, don't be the dude that turns up in the color-coordinated, luridly branded rig (matching accessories and all), like you're a budding phenom who just inked his first sponsorship deal with Nike. That's as sure a sign as any you're asking for a clowning, and I can pretty much guarantee if it's a clowning you're asking for, it's a clowning you're going to get.

Instead, make like Rossdale here and come through to the court/field/pitch (?) in a perfectly off-kilter fit—you see those socks?!—and then pray your opponents don't immediately see through your carefully constructed facade. Because Gavin Rossdale is out here serving looks, and boy, his fit is aces. LOL. Tennis puns!
