The Mid-Autumn Festival at Gardens by the Bay will return again this year, and visitors will be treated to the largest lantern display ever created by the Gardens.

Running from 22 September to 8 October, the celebrations will feature the display called “Waters of Prosperity”, which spans an area of 1,250 square metres over the water with a total of 70 carp lanterns. It portrays a fishing village, which is in line with this year’s theme of autumn abundance.

Other lantern displays to look out for include “Grains of Gold”, a paddy field illuminated with 4,000 glowing rice stalks, and “Splendour of Blooms”, which features 250 water lily lanterns floating on the lake. There will also be more than 100 dragonfly lanterns on the Supertrees at the “Flight of the Dragonflies” display.

Other than lantern displays, visitors can take part in a variety of other activities as well. A light and sound show, “Garden Rhapsody”, will be shown nightly at the Supertree Grove. It will feature a medley of popular tunes that revolve around the moon, such as jazz favourite “Fly Me to the Moon” and Chinese classic “The Moon Represents My Heart”.

For those who want a more hands-on experience, fret not: there will be a fun zone where visitors can have a go at various arts and crafts such as lantern decorating, umbrella painting and Chinese knotting. Other interactive craft booths include those involving balloons and mooncakes.

There will also be nightly traditional arts performances put up by local groups at the Supertree Grove. Other programmes include a food street offering a wide spread of Asian delights and a “Lantern Riddles” booth to discover more about Chinese culture.

Programmes are free unless otherwise indicated. More information can be found on Gardens by the Bay’s official website.
