Gambit Solo Movie Chasing Female Lead

It looks as though Channing Tatum’s ‘Gambit’ already has his eyes on a leading lady… but who will end up starring as Bella Donna Boudreaux?

According to Deadline, the upcoming ‘X-Men’ spin-off has already starting casting for its leading lady… with several rather impressive names linked to the role.

“This is a hotly contested job, the role of Belladonna Boudreaux aka Bella, and they’ve got a trio of the best and brightest testing next week,” they revealed. “Rebecca Ferguson, [from Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation] will be testing; so will Lea Seydoux [from latest Bond film, Spectre]; and finally Abbey Lee, [who recently starred in Mad Max: Fury Road].”

But who exactly is the character, Bella Donna Boudreaux?

Appearing in the Marvel comic books, Bella Donna was Gambit’s first love. Having met when they were only children, Bella and Remy have a long history together… and in a twist of fate, soon found out that they were from rival Guilds – the Thieves Guild and Assassins Guild.

A tale akin to Romeo and Juliet, we eventually saw Bella Donna become the head of the Assassins Guild… after developing her own psychic superpowers. But is this the Bella Donna we’ll see on the big screen?

It’s likely that we’ll see some changes, both to the character herself and her interactions with Channing Tatum’s Gambit. But I get the feeling that their closely-tied origins may remain as in the comic books.

Either way, it’s a rather exciting line-up for the role.

As for who will end up nabbing the coveted female lead remains to be seen… but with Léa Seydoux and Abbey Lee in the running, I get the feeling it’s going to be a rather excellent role.

‘Gambit’ heads to cinemas on 7 October 2016.
