Gal Gadot announces new "Wonder Woman 1984" release date

Gadot's "Wonder Woman" changes release date again, this time 7 months delayed

Gal Gadot reprises her role as the titular superhero in the "Wonder Woman" sequel.

23 Oct – "Wonder Woman" star Gal Gadot has excitedly tweeted that the sequel is "back to its rightful home".

Or, basically, it means "Wonder Woman 1984" now has yet another new release date.

Gadot posted on her Twitter today: "Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!"

This puts the sequel back in the same release month as the first movie, which was released on 2 June 2017 in the US.

It is mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter that the new release date the sequel has taken over was originally saved for Mark Wahlberg's "Six Billion Dollar Man", which has been taken off the release schedule for now.

Previously, "Wonder Woman 1984" was set for release in December 2019, before it was brought forward to November the same year.

The recent move is seen as a way to maximize the sequel's box office collection, as it currently has the 5 to 7 June 2020 weekend to itself, with no other big titles to compete with.

In late 2019, it would've opened just a few weeks after the Joaquin Phoenix-starring "Joker".

Its only other possible competitor will be "Red Notice", which stars Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot herself. The action comedy is set to open 12 June 2020 but it could see a change in release date since Johnson's other movie, "Jungle Cruise", was recently moved from October 2019 to 24 July 2020.

"Wonder Woman 1984" is currently the last to be released among DC's upcoming key superhero movies, comprising "Aquaman" (December 2018), "Shazam!" (April 2019), "Joker" (October 2019), and "Birds of Prey" (February 2020).
