‘Fresh Off the Boat’ Creator Nahnatchka Khan Inks Pod Deal With 20th TV

Nahnatchka Khan, creator of the ABC comedy Fresh Off The Boat, is expanding her footprint at 20th Century Fox TV where she has been based for more than a decade. Under a new three-year deal with the studio, Khan will grow her Fierce Baby Productions banner into a full-fledged pod with former 20th TV executive Mandy Summers tapped as head of development.

Under the deal, Khan, who has emerged as one of the strongest comedy voices of her generation, will create, write, develop and supervise projects in addition to continuing as showrunner/executive producer of FOTB,now heading into its third season.

“Nahnatchka is a brilliant comedic mind who can write material that runs the gamut—from projects as twisted and wickedly funny as her beloved Don’t Trust the B**** to the inspired and broadly appealing Fresh Off the Boat,” said 20th TV president of creative affairs Jonnie Davis. “We’ve been in business with her all the way back to the first season of American Dad, and if It’s up to us, she’ll never work anywhere else. She’s both a spectacular talent and a dear friend to everyone at this studio, and we’re thrilled she’ll continue to create and develop new projects here for many years to come.”

Before creating Fresh off the Boat based on Eddie Huang’s memoir, Khan was the creator and executive producer of 20th TV’s underrated ABC comedy Don’t Trust the B—- In Apartment 23, which ran for two seasons. She previously served as an executive producer on the Fox/20th TV animated comedy American Dad, on which she worked for six years.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky to be at 20th for basically the entire run of my professional career,” Khan said. “I’m proud to be on their team. And if Kim Kardashian decides to release a Snapchat video of me saying anything different, she’ll be hearing from my lawyers.”

Summers worked at 20th TV since 2003, most recently as VP of Current Programming, overseeing Khan’s Fresh Off the Boat and Don’t Trust the B**** , along with ABC’s Modern Family, CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, and Fox’s longrunning Bones. She began her career at Alliance Atlantis.
