20th Century Studios has shared a new trailer for Free Guy, the new action comedy film starring Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer, that is definitely coming to cinemas in December.

Directed by Night At The Museum’s Shawn Levy, the films sees the Deadpool star as a computer game character who doesn’t realise he’s part of a virtual world, while Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer is one of the game’s many real world players. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi also stars as one of the game’s designers.

It’s The Truman Show meets Tron with Reynold’s trademark brand of wry humour poured liberally over the top.

Yesterday Reynolds teased the reveal of the new trailer with a brilliant video, in which the cast poked fun at the many film delays of 2020 so far.

Reynolds and Comer are joined by their director and cast mates Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Joe Keery to record alternate release dates for the film in case it doesn’t get released on 11 December as currently planned.

As it stands, Free Guy is one of the few 2020 blockbusters still coming to cinemas this year. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is also slated for release in December, but rumours persist that the sci-fi film will also be pushed back to 2021 as the cinema industry continues to reckon with the global coronavirus pandemic.

Synopsis: In Twentieth Century Studios’ epic adventure-comedy “Free Guy,” a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story… one he rewrites himself.

Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way… before it is too late.

Free Guy is coming to cinemas on 11 December.
