Frankie Pangilinan calls for denormalisation of rape culture

9 Jul – Frankie Pangilinan continues on with her quest of protesting against rape culture by calling for everybody to denormalise it in the Philippines.

As reported on Inquirer, the musician and social media influencer spoke recently in the online forum Women at Thomson Reuters, saying that people often forget that the bigger cultural solution is to educate people correctly about rape and rape culture.

"People tend to ignore that in favour of the prevention angle. I think that we should all be working together towards the bigger, wider solution, which is, again, that denormalising it, call it out. Hold our friends and loved ones accountable when we hear those things," she said.

Pangilinan added that people should stop holding on to the idea that prevention is better than solution.

The musician also stated that she was much inspired by the bravery of many women who decided to speak up about their sexual assault and harassments following her post.

"If we're going to disable a system in its entirety, we need to disable every part of it. I know that sounds kind of cliché, but your part is determined by you. But at the same time, it's very much determined by your circumstance, and no one can take your part away from you," she said.

It was back in June when the daughter of actress Sharon Cuneta and Senator Kiko Pangilinan called out on TV personality Ben Tulfo for saying that women should look at what they wear to avoid being harassed, and slamming him for calling her "hija" (child), which had since started the hashtag "HijaAko" that became trending on Twitter.
