Fox Searchlight’s Untitled A.A. Milne Project With Domhnall Gleeson & Margot Robbie: First Look

Fox Searchlight’s Untitled A.A. Milne Project directed by Simon Curtis has begun shooting on location in and around London, the company announced on Thursday.

It’s set Will Tilston to star as a young Christopher Robin alongside Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie and Kelly Macdonald. Additional cast includes Stephen Campbell Moore, Alex Lawther, Richard McCabe, Nico Mirallegro, Geraldine Somerville and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Frank Cottrell Boyce (Railway Man, Millions) writes the script based on a screenplay by Simon Vaughn (War and Peace) and the project is produced by Damian Jones through his DJ Films banner and Steve Christian. Vaughn will exec produce. Searchlight have released some first-look images of the project, including one featuring Gleeson as Alan Milne and Robbie as his wife Daphne and another with Tilston as his son playing with a stuffed toy bear, the inspiration for the character of Winnie the Pooh.

Pathe developed the project and it’s the second film to go through Jones’ first-look production pact with Fox Searchlight. UK producer Jones is flying high, hitting a grand slam at the UK box office with his last four films. Lady in the Van, Dad’s Army and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie all went to number one in the UK while Brotherhood, the final part of Noel Clarke’s urban genre trilogy, which Jones exec produced, debuted at number two in the UK box office earlier this month.

The Untitled A.A. Milne film gives a glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh. Along with his mother Daphne, and his nanny Olive, Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books; the enchanting tales bringing home and comfort to England after the WWI.

Joining Curtis on the film are director of photography Ben Smithard, production designer David Roger, costume designer Odile Dicks-Mireaux, hair and make-up designer Sian Grigg and editor Victoria Boydell.

The project will be overseen by Searchlight co-heads of production David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield and VP of production Katie Goodson-Thomas.
