Fox 2000 Buying Hitchcockian Thriller Novel ‘The Woman In The Window’
EXCLUSIVE: Fox 2000 is closing a deal for screen rights to The Woman In The Window, a hot new novel that was written by A.J. Finn (a pseudonym for a book editor at a major publishing house, I hear). The deal happened just as an auction for the book rights is underway. The novel has elements of The Girl On The Train and Hitchcock’s Rear Window and has a strong role for an actress.
Anna Fox lives alone in the New York City brownstone that once housed her happy family. She suffers from agoraphobia and is separated from her husband and daughter. She spends her days chatting online with strangers, watching old movies, drinking to excess and spying on her neighbors. This gets interesting when the Russell clan moves in next door. Watching the bond between the parents and their teen son makes her long for her own reunion with her own family, but that changes when she observes what seems to be a shocking act of violence. The housebound woman must confront what she saw, or whether she has become unhinged.
ICM Partners is brokering the deal. Right now the book is in the middle of a publishing auction, which should be decided shortly. Busy week for Elizabeth Gabler’s Fox 2000, which reportedly also acquired the untitled spec about a female talk show host to star Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson, with Scott Rudin producing.
