Former Hong Kong Chief Executive denies calling for TVB boycott
14 Aug – TVB has recently released a statement denying that the former Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung had demanded the company not to air their long-shelved drama, "Ratman To The Rescue".
As reported on Mingpao, the issue sparked recently, after a Facebook user by the name of Leung Chun Ying reposted a 300-word article titled, "Stop "Ratman to the Rescue", Or Boycott TVB Permanently", in which he accused lead actor Sammy Leung of being a Hong Kong independence supporter.
The post also received a lot of mixed opinions from netizens.
Leung had since denied posting the said article, adding that the Facebook account was owned by someone else using the same name.
TVB immediately issued a statement clarifying the situation, saying, "An article that appeared to be posted by Mr Leung Chun Ying circulated on the internet earlier today (7 August) called for the halt of the "Ratman to the Rescue" broadcast. The content is false and has no basis. Mr Leung Chun Ying has clarified this on his Facebook... TVB would like to thank Mr Leung for his quick clarification."
On the other hand, the series' lead actor Sammy Leung stated that everything is being handled by TVB and that he has nothing to comment further.
"Ratman to the Rescue" was previously filmed in 2018 and will finally be screened on 17 August.
