Welcome to this week's round-up of food deals, discounts and freebies.
Best supermarket deals
This week we’re going to kick off with the latest meal deal at Marks & Spencer - a Dine In for Mother's Day. This time it’s for a family of four for £15 with a large main, side, dessert and bottle of plonk. Take your pick from Oakham chicken, lamb, beef, gammon, four salmon fillets, haddock gratin and a mozzarella and tomato tart. See the full menu here.
Sainsbury’s has some great cheap snacks. First up, grab this box of McVitie’s Cheddars for £1 (was £1.25), parmesan and basil flatbread for £1 (was £1.50), Taste the Difference Wiltshire ham for £1.44 (was £2.89) and Sainsbury’s gherkins for 56p (was 85p).
For a fish supper, Taste the Difference Corsican bass fillets have £1 off at £4.99, John West mild smoked salmon (170g) has £3 off at £2.99 and Taste the Difference king prawns (175g), which have been responsibly sourced, have been reduced from £5.99 to £3. On to the meat, Gressingham Foods duck sausages (350g) are £2 (was £3) and Saints and Scholars pork and spring onion sausages (400g) are also £2 (was £2.49).
Over at Tesco there are some price drops in the bakery section with potato cakes for 45p (was 50p), two chocolate or almond croissants for 90p (was £1), organic white baguettes and Tesco Finest crusty farmhouse bread for 70p (was 80p) and malted grain deli rolls for 65p (was 75p).
Finally, look out for the Mother’s Day Meal Deal – it’s pretty basic stuff but you could add one of the soups, a pate, a meat joint, these roast potatoes and this lemon tart for £10, saving you £3.99.
Heading to Asda, best buys include Clover Lighter 500g for £1.50 (was £2), Kerrygold Butter 500g for £2 (was £2.80), Cravendale Milk 2L for £1.50 (was £1.88), large whole chickens for £3.18/kg (was £3.38/kg), large rump steaks for £1.40 per 100g (was £1.60), haddock in cheese sauce for £2 (was £3.50) and 286g of skinless chicken breast fillets for £3 (was £3.30).
Morrisons has Ben & Jerry's 500ml ice cream tubs half price at £2.25, two fresh sea bass for £4, while baby new potatoes (67p per kg), carrots (49p per kg), savoy cabbages (41p each) and parsnips (50p per 500g) are all half price.
This week at Lidl you can buy sweet potatoes for 89p/kg (was £1.35/kg), 500g punnets of white grapes for £1.29 (was £1.99), 1kg packs of chicken legs for £1.99 (was £2.65), 500ml of Italian Extra Virgin olive oil for £1.99 (was £2.79), grated Grana Padano for £1.19 (was £1.38), 500g Utterly Butterly for 89p (was £1.80) and two for £1.50 on Pot Noodles.
Finally, check out the special offers this week from online gourmet butcher Westin Gourmet which includes 19% off a 1kg wheel of Camembert, now £16.82 (was £20.84), 22% off a 1kg pack of steak mince, now £6.19 (was £7.92) and 18% off British lamb loin chops, now £9.10 (was £11.08).
Drink deals
At Marks & Spencer you can mix and match any two cases of French wine or Champagne and knock 25% off the price, plus this case of Louis Chaurey Champagne is half price, reduced from £180 to £90, working out to £15 per bottle.
You can still buy better than half-price wine deals at Tesco Wine to celebrate Mother’s Day. Get a case of Charles de Ravon Brut Champagne for £68.40 (was £153.84) and a case of either Freixenet Cava Vintage Especial or Freixenet Vintage Especial Rose Cava for £28.44 (was £79.74).
