The airline, known for its budget-friendly fares, continues to downsize its route network and focus on flights that are in high demand among its customers. Just last week, the airline eliminated two dozen routes before heading into the off-peak winter season.
To make up for these losses, Spirit has recently updated its fare classes to offer more amenities such as seat assignments and carry-on bags to compete with legacy carriers. Additionally, most change and cancellation fees were removed earlier in 2024. Spirit and Frontier have also revived merger talks from 2022 to combine into a major ultra-low-cost carrier, and ultimately, the fifth-largest airline in the U.S.
