Florida Nightclub Shooting Leaves at Least 2 Dead, 17 Injured

At least two people were killed and 17 others were injured following a shooting at a Florida nightclub teen party early Monday morning.

The attack occurred at about 12:30 a.m. EDT in the parking lot of Club Blu in Fort Myers. The area around the club, where there were two active crime scenes, is now safe, police said. Some roads still remain closed.

Three suspects are currently in custody, according to Fort Myers Police Department Capt. Jim Mulligan. Authorities are canvassing the area looking for others who may be involved.

Four people remained hospitalized on Monday morning, according to the Associated Press. All others victims — between the ages of 12 and 27 — were treated and released, the AP reports. The injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening.

Club Blu, which was reportedly holding a “swimsuit glow party,” said in a Facebook post on Monday that violence erupted as the club was closing and parents were picking up their children. It noted that armed security guards were stationed inside and outside the club.

“We are deeply sorry for all involved,” the post read. “We tried to give teens what we thought was a safe place to have a good time.”

The attack comes six weeks after another club shooting in Orlando — the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The June 12 shooting in Orlando at LGBT nightclub Pulse left 49 dead and 53 others wounded.
