The team behind the ‘Lego Batman Movie’ have rather big ambitions for their film.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed that the plan is to “make the coolest ‘Batman’ movie ever,” while they’re already pretty confident that it will easily be “the funniest.”
And the first images of both The Joker and Robin, who will delightfully be voiced by Zach Galifianakis and Michael Cera, suggests the film could live up to their hopes. You can get your first proper look at ‘Lego Batman Movie’s’ version of the super-villain above, as well as a glimpse of Cera’s Robin below, too.
But that’s not all, because we’ve even got our very first look at the Joker in action, too, as he causes destruction around Gotham City in his rather impressive convertible that just so happens to be driven by Harley Quinn.
Meanwhile a shot of Robin in the Batmobile with Batman (Will Arnett) has also been released, which does a pretty good job of summing up what their relationship is going to be like in the film as Robin’s cape keeps blocking his comrade’s vision behind the wheel.
McKay explained that the catalyst for the ‘Lego Batman Movie’ will be the introduction of Robin, who immediately interrupts Bruce Waynes bachelor and crime-fighting lifestyle.
“’Lego Batman’ is ‘About A Boy’ as directed by Michael Mann,” McKay told USA Today. This is a single guy who suddenly has a kid literally drop into his world.”
But don’t just expect to see the Joker and Robin in the film though. Because McKay teased that like its predecessor ‘The Lego Movie’ the film will be packed with comic book characters.
“We’re going deep in Batman lore and DC Comics lore. Batman’s Rogues Gallery is going to be completely filled out in Lego.”
We’ll finally get to feast our eyes on ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ when it’s released in the UK on 10 February, 2017.
