Malaysian budget carrier Firefly said on Thursday (22 Nov) that it would be suspending flights into Singapore from 1 December 2018 onwards, citing issues with the Singapore authorities’ plan to move turboprop operations from Changi Airport to Seletar Airport.

In a statement on its Facebook, Firefly said, “Firefly confirms that it has had to suspend flights into Singapore effective 1 December 2018 until the relevant authorities have cleared remaining matters in relation to the Singapore authority’s plans to move turbo-prop operations from Changi International to Seletar. Firefly has not been provided any definitive timeline by the authorities for the delay. Upon final approval from the authorities, Firefly will then resume its flights into Singapore.”

Firefly added in its statement that arrangements were being made for all affected passengers, although it did not elaborate on these arrangements. Customers who made queries on its Facebook page were directed to contact the airline by telephone or email for further information and assistance.

An $80 million passenger terminal opened at Seletar Airport on Monday (19 Nov). Operation of scheduled turboprop flights are planned to be moved from Changi Airport to Seletar Airport beginning on 1 Dec, which is also the date on which Firefly was expected to begin operations at Seletar.
