Can we finally say goodbye to painful stilettos?

For many women, heels are a guilty pleasure. Sure, they make your legs look longer and thinner, but man, they really can make your feet kill after a few hours – OK, minutes.

So when aspiring sneaker designer, Christopher Dixon, found himself poking around tennis star, Serena Williams’ shoe closet – he’s a good friend of her cousin – he was surprised to find so many pairs of these pointy torture devices.

In an interview with Fast Company he says how he asked her, “Why do you wear shoes that hurt, especially as an athlete?“ Her response was the same as most of us: because they look good.

With this in mind, he decided to shift his focus from sneakers to designing a pair of stilettos that would not only look good but also be comfortable. His discovery: the double heel.

“When you have one heel, when you walk, the heel shakes. We wanted to add more stability,” he explains

In addition, he packed the midsole of the shoe with memory foam and a material to absorb the shock, in the same sneakers are made. Handing off the shoes to 60 women to try out, all admitted that they were the most comfortable heels in their closet.

Unsurprisingly, Dixon’s wife is the biggest fan.

“She wore them all year,” he says. She wore them so much, in fact, she had the heel caps changed three times.

While some may find the heels a bit odd looking, Dixon claims that’s what makes them unique, both aesthetically and ergonomically.
