Fifty Shades Darker Beats The Force Awakens' Most-Viewed Trailer Record

Move over Rey and Finn… Christian and Ana have just taught you a lesson in trailers.

Following its release this week, the trailer for ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ has been viewed an eye-popping 114 million times in 24 hours.

By comparison, the first proper trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, the previous champ, was viewed 112 million times over the same period.

Breaking down the views, it racked up 39.4 million in the US, but cleaned up in 32 other worldwide territories, including the UK, Mexico and France, raking in 74.6 million.

It also boasted 2.5 million views in the US on its Facebook page alone within its first hour online.

The mind-boggling numbers put the continuing popularity into some perspective, with trailer views becoming an increasingly accurate indicator potential box office success.

The first movie, released last year starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, hauled in a impressive $571 million, despite its terrible reviews.

Dornan and Johnson have filmed the next two movies in the series, ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ and ‘Fifty Shades Freed’, back to back with ‘House of Cards’ director James Foley.

Recently, Dornan said that he was now ‘done’ with the franchise, despite rumours of a possible fourth movie.

“We have done two movies back to back now, and I’m actually finished with it. I’ve done Fifty Shades forever,” he told The Sun.

“I move on very fast in my mind. As much as from the outside people think you are synonymous with one character, but I’m very much like, ‘Right, that’s done’ and move on to the next project and worry about that character.”

‘Fifty Shades Darker’ is due out on February 10, 2017, with ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ out on February 9, 2018.
