Back in the summer, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale arrived as a new breed of flagship.

As Ferrari's first production plug-in hybrid, here was a machine that could switch from silent assassin at low speed to raging track monster when fully unleashed.

At nearly 1000hp and with an astonishing level of engineering and driving tech at its driver's disposal, it's a car so capable that the £380k price tag almost looks like good value.

And now, here's the convertible version. All that speed and power, but this time with the wind in your hair and whilst rummaging around for the sunblock.

The retractable hard top takes just 14 seconds to transform the car from Stradale into Spider.

And those stunning looks which represent something of a new design direction for the Maranello marque work just as well with or without the roof.

Under the skin though, not much has changed from the Stradale where a 4 litre mid-engined V8 combines with three electric motors to achieve identically breathtaking numbers; it takes just 2.5 seconds to reach 62mph from a standing start, with a top speed of 211mph achievable for those in possession of both a slow heart beat and an empty airport.

No one's pretending its electric powertrain also makes it an eco-warrior. Right now, the chief benefit of using electric power here is speed. And on that front the SF90 Spider is in a category of its own.
