Felicity Jones used to look like “petrified chicken” at red carpet events because she was so uncomfortable.
The British actress has been attending film premieres and glitzy public events for the past 10 years, particularly in 2014 and 2015, when she was nominated for multiple awards for her performance in The Theory of Everything.
However, in an interview with Porter magazine, the 36-year-old confessed that it took her a long time to feel comfortable with all eyes on her.
“I was just laughing with Mary Greenwell, the make-up artist, because we’ve been working together for years, about how I used to do the red carpet and look like a petrified chicken. It’s literally taken myself years to give myself permission to enjoy it,” she recalled.
Felicity credits Greenwell and the rest of her glam squad, which includes stylist Nicky Yates and personal trainer Louisa Drake, for giving her the confidence to take on the red carpet, with her adding, “I know it sounds a bit American, but it takes a village!”
During the interview, the Rogue One star also heaped praise on Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, describing her as “a woman who marches to her own drum”, and fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu, who created her wedding dress when she married Charlie Guard in June 2018.
“We share a love of a pie-crust collar. And there’s always something about Erdem’s designs that is a just a little bit mischievous,” the actress praised.
Felicity may now be known for her flawless porcelain skin, which has earned her a collaboration with Japanese skincare brand Clea de Peau Beaute, but she admitted in the chat that she suffered from acne growing up.
“I’d always get really bad spots on my forehead, so my solution was to wear a woolly hat, all the time. And I remember my parents being like, ‘Are you sure you want to wear that today, because it’s really hot.’ I guess I thought it was slightly ‘90s and Kurt Cobain, but I don’t think it was at all,” she shared.
