Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them expects $75 million opening

Will ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ top ‘Harry Potter’?

According to Variety, the upcoming spin-off is lining up for an impressive $75 million opening… but that probably won’t be enough to outdo the huge success of the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is on track to open to a lofty $75 million when it hits U.S. theaters next month,” they explain. “[But] the picture’s opening pales in comparison to the $169.2 million kickoff of ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’, the most recent film in the wizarding franchise.”

Why is it so low compared to ‘Harry Potter’?

It’s all because of the absence of a certain young wizard…

“The ‘Harry Potter’ spinoff stars Eddie Redmayne (‘The Theory of Everything’), and, though set in the world of Hogwarts, tells an entirely different story. There’s no appearance from a certain bespectacled wizard. The relative novelty of the characters and the five-year absence since the past ‘Potter’ film has meant that Warner Bros. has had to re-introduce the project to audiences.”

It’s no secret that Warner Bros. has plenty of confidence in the new series.

After all, they’ve already announced that there will be a total of five ‘Fantastic Beasts’ movies, with the next instalment also to be penned by the original novels’ author, J.K. Rowling.

“It’s also possible that the opening weekend box office projection will rise as the ad campaign kicks into full force and reviews hit.”

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ stars Edde Redmayne as Newt Scamander. He’s joined by Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, and Colin Farrell.

David Yates directed the film based on a screenplay by J.K. Rowling.

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ opens in cinemas on 18 November 2016.
