Fans are So Thrilled That Carrie Underwood is Back with Another Sunday Night Football Theme Song

From Country Living

  • Carrie Underwood has been the voice of NBC’s Sunday Night Football theme song since September 2013.

  • This year, the 37-year-old singer had to record the song remotely in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

If you’re a fan of Sunday Night Football, you’re likely pretty accustomed to seeing a familiar face each and every Sunday night during the football season—and we’re not talking about the players' or analysts'. Nope—when it comes to setting the stage for a night full of football, Carrie Underwood stands front and center.

The 37-year-old country superstar has been the voice of NBC’s Sunday Night Football since September 2013. And this year—despite the worldwide COVID-19 health crisis—is no different.

Sunday, September 13, marked the football season opener. And, before the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams battled it out on the field, Carrie gave it her all on the virtual stage with her latest rendition of "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night."

The recording featured Carrie singing in front of a green screen, as well as live shots of her at a studio in Nashville. Additionally, clips of fans and players were intermixed with her performance. The big difference, however? All of the fan shots were self-submitted, and all of the player reels were recorded remotely. And, after being part of the Sunday Night Football process for what’s now her eighth consecutive season, Carrie had some thoughts.

"I think people need Sunday Night Football," she shared in a previously-released clip. "Fans can all kind of unite for a few hours and they get to cheer on their favorite teams, and we need that bit of normalcy, even if we're going about it in a slightly different way."

Of course, fans were thrilled to see Carrie on their screens once again:
