Fans are pumped to see Keanu Reeves in 'Matrix 4': 'We are living in the Keanussance'

The announcement Tuesday that Keanu Reeves and others are getting back together to make Matrix 4, a follow-up to 2003’s The Matrix Revolutions, caught fans by surprise.

Immediately after Variety reported that Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, as well as writer and director Lana Wachowski, are on board, they freaked out on social media. First, they were stunned but, once they had time to process the news, they were ecstatic.

It was a lot to take in, particularly because plans for the movie were revealed on the same day as the news that Spider-Man is leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following a dispute with Disney’s Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.

They pointed out that Reeves is an insanely busy actor these days, with sequels to his other hits, including John Wick and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, in the works, too. There’s also Reeves’s cameo in this year’s Ali Wong romantic comedy Always Be My Maybe and his voice work in Toy Story 4. His upcoming schedule includes the action movie Rally Car and the TV miniseries Rain, according to IMDb.

They were definitely pumped about the return of Moss as well.

They did have some questions about logistics and whether it makes sense for the characters to return.

However, fans have some time to get used to the idea, since Variety reported that Matrix 4 isn’t expected to begin production until the beginning of 2020.

The first three Matrix movies raked in more than $1.6 billion at the box office.
