This Family Wants You to Give Them $100,000 So They Can Raise Their Kids "Off-Grid"

From Cosmopolitan

When it comes to parenting styles, there seems to be no such thing as normal anymore - but it's safe to say Adele and Matt Allen are still pretty unconventional.

According to their FundMyTravel.com page, the parents are diehard believers in "off-grid parenting." As a result, their children - 5-year-old Ulysses and 1-year-old Ostara - don't have bedtimes, walk around everywhere barefoot, get to decide when they want to stop breastfeeding, and are encouraged to interact with nature by touching and eating every plant they come across. Unsurprisingly, the Allens don't believe in modern medicine and vaccinations, and choose to treat colds with lemon water and eye infections with breast milk. (I'm pretty sure the last thing I want in my eye when I have an eye infection is breast milk, but to each their own.)

As the parents explain, in order to achieve their dreams of total self-sufficiency, they need a little help, and are asking you to give them £100,000 so they can buy a plot of land in Costa Rica to grow food and escape "the system." In exchange, for just £5, you get an e-copy of Adele's forthcoming but not-yet-written book about unconventional parenting.

So far, it seems as though the Allens have received quite a bit of backlash for their crowdfunding attempts. As many have pointed out, it's a little hypocritical to talk about your dreams of self-sufficiency when you're asking other people to pay for them. But if the family is as self-sufficient as they've made themselves out to be, they'll probably recover just fine.
