The first episode of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' was released on March 19 on the Disney+ streaming platform.

Marvel series haven't lost any of their shine. Recently, "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" has proven extremely popular with Disney+ subscribers in the US. According to a report, the series starring Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie got off to a better start in terms of audience than "WandaVision" and even "The Mandalorian." In all, the first episode generated 495 million viewing minutes.

Nielsen took a look at what Americans watched the most on their screens between March 15 and 21. The results showed that while Netflix series "Ginny & Georgia" and "The Crown" respectively took the first and third places with 540 and 449 million minutes watched, it is the series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" on Disney+ which was the real surprise.

A gap of 60 million minutes

With only one episode aired, compared to the entire season of "Ginny & Georgia," the series which draws on the Marvel universe made a significant breakthrough by garnering 495 million minutes watched by American subscribers of Disney+. While Marvel had already revealed in March that "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" had nabbed the position of being the most-watched debut on the streaming platform, Nielsen has revealed the exact figures.

In the top 10 most-watched original streaming series between March 15 and 21 in the US, Nielsen ranked "WandaVision" in sixth place, with 252 million minutes watched over a total of nine episodes. Specifically, the first episode of the Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-led series garnered 434 million minutes watched, more than 60 million fewer than the first episode of "Falcon and the Winter Soldier."

Also according to Nielsen, the first episode of the Marvel series surpassed the first episodes of both seasons of "The Mandalorian." While the polling firm did not provide specific numbers for each episode, Nielsen revealed that the second season had garnered a total of more than 1 billion minutes viewed by subscribers.

The right timing

The success of the series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" is even more impressive since with only one episode of about 50 minutes, the Marvel series attracted more fans than "WandaVision," which also draws on the Marvel cinematic universe. That series, which tells the story of the characters Wanda Maximoff and Vision, launched its very first season with two episodes of about 30 minutes, that is to say more than 60 minutes in total.

Getting much buzz on social networks, "WandaVision" has been able to capitalize on its popularity. Which also gave momentum to the new series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier." It is also worth noting that the series with Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie was launched ten days after Disney+ announced that it had surpassed 100 million subscribers in early March, while "WandaVision" was released in January 2021.
