Formula One racers and Hollywood actor Patrick Dempsey were out and about in Singapore ahead of the Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix. The Formula One (F1) night race is happening from 15 to 17 September.

On Wednesday (13 September), Belgian-Dutch racer Max Verstappen joined Patrick Dempsey at the launch of an exhibition by luxury watch brand Tag Heuer. Located along Orchard Road, the “Heuer Globetrotter” exhibition takes place simultaneously for 15 days in 10 cities around the world. At the exhibition, visitors can see watches from the brand’s museum collection as well as pieces loaned by collectors.

Later in the day, Verstappen joined Australian racer Daniel Ricciardo for a durian feast. Unfortunately, the duo very much disliked the taste and smell of the king of fruit.

“I thought the smell would be worst, [but] the taste was even stronger. And the texture was weird,” said Ricciardo.

Meanwhile, Verstappen said, “If there was the hottest model in the world and she was eating that, I would say ‘no’. Because then I would puke and it’s not very nice.”

Separately, UK’s former F1 racer David Coulthard made a special appearance at Lau Pa Sat on the same day. Coulthard attended a fashion show hosted by alcoholic beverage brand Heineken. The event showcased a collection by homegrown designer Sabrina Goh called ELOHIM and featured models such as Sheila Sim.

More pre-race events will be happening on Thursday (14 September). These include a meet-and-greet with racers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas at the The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore, as well as a chance to meet racer Felipe Massa at bar-restaurant CE LA VI.

This year’s Singapore GP will see concerts by megastars such as singer Ariana Grande, electronic duo The Chainsmokers and eighties pop band Duran Duran.
