F*ck It! Bring Back Chris Evans as Captain America!

From Esquire

Marvel has made very clear in the last decade that no one ever dies, the stakes are never real, and this intellectual property will continue long after our mortal bodies fade from this earth. And even though Chris Evans' Captain America gave the Marvel Cinematic Universe an emotional goodbye in Avengers: Endgame less than two years ago, rumors emerged this week suggesting he might return to the franchise he never really left in the first place.

On Thursday, Deadline reported that Evans is eyeing a deal to appear, once again, in the MCU:

It’s still vague whether the deal is closed, but insiders say it’s headed in that direction for Evans to return as Steve Rogers aka Captain America in at least one Marvel property, with the door open for a second film. Sources add it’s unlikely to be a new Captain America installment and more likely to be like what Robert Downey Jr. did after Iron Man 3, appearing in such films as Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Marvel did not comment on the rumors, and Evans responded to the report on Twitter saying, "News to me." But certainly, stranger things have, and will continue, to happen in Disney's immortal MCU.

So, how exactly would Evans return? Well, unlike Tony Stark, who was dead and buried at the end of Endgame, Steve Rogers is still out there in the Marvel universe. In the closing moments of Endgame, Captain America goes back in time to return all of the Infinity Stones where they belong in the past. However, even though the trip should just take a moment in present time, he doesn't return. Instead, Hulk, Falcon, and Bucky see an old man sitting nearby on a bench who turns out to be an elderly Steve Rogers. As we learn, Rogers stayed in the past with Peggy Carter to live his own life. Good for him!

This seems like a nice ending for Rogers, but it also opens up a shitload of other questions. Like, what was Captain America doing this whole time? Was he just sitting back, drinking sweet tea, and watching villains wreck the world and not doing anything about it?

Of course, it's certainly possible Chris Evans' appearances would take place in the past of the MCU timeline, now that there are two Steve Rogers living through the events we've already seen.

In other words, it's confusing! But did you really expect anything else? One thing we can count on is that in the MCU nothing matters!
