Experience the splendor of Britain’s spectacular country houses on a unique new tour next April.

Readers can explore the country’s finest historic homes on a Telegraph Tour with Cambridge-educated historian and radio presenter David Starkey, who will also host various talks on their lesser-known histories and a Q&A session.

Guests on the tour will discover various art collections housed in these grand British palaces, alongside textiles and ceramics that have been admired by Britain’s kings and queens for centuries.

Guests will also view one of John Constable’s personal depictions of his home country, Dedham Vale, which is displayed within Elton House alongside pieces by Pre-Raphaelite painter, John Everett Millais.

Famed portraits such as that of Charles I and his son are held in Holdenby House, where guests will also visit a dining room filled with elaborate silk wall hangings.

A visit to the Baroque style suite in Burleigh House will see guests observe carvings by Charles II’s master carver, Grinling Gibbons, while at Belton House they can admire the opulent Chinese wallpaper, the lapis lazuli cabinet as well as rare late 18th-century Sévres porcelain pottery.

Other highlights include a visit to Elton House’s 15th-century tower built during Henry VII’s reign or the altarpiece painted by Veronese in Burleigh House’s chapel.

In addition to the country house visits, guests can enjoy a drinks reception, dinner and a tour of the town of Stamford, which is home to more than 600 listed buildings.
