So much in our lives is unknown right now, but what to expect weather-wise this winter isn’t, thanks to The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The agency shared its weather predictions for the upcoming season, so we know what’s headed our way.

Currently, the climate pattern La Nina has almost half of the continental United States in a drought. “With La Nina well established and expected to persist through the upcoming 2020 winter season, we anticipate the typical, cooler, wetter North, and warmer, drier South, as the most likely outcome of winter weather that the U.S. will experience this year,” Mike Halpert, deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, said in the report.

Drought is expected to intensify and expand across California, the southern and central plains, and the eastern Gulf Coast. Luckily, conditions in the northern Rockies, Northwest, New England, Alaska, and Hawaii should improve in the coming months.

As far as temperatures go, the Southwest, Hawaii, and parts of Alaska will likely see warmer-than-normal conditions. The southern parts of the west coast and the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast have a moderate chance of warmer temperatures. Below-normal temperatures are likely in southern Alaska and from the northern Pacific Northwest into the Northern Plains.

OK, but what about the snow? Unfortunately, the NOAA's report doesn't include any information on that. "Snow forecasts are generally not predictable more than a week in advance," according to the report. We'll just have to wait and see.

No matter where you live, winter is coming! Make sure to prep accordingly–especially since the pandemic will still be part of our lives. Stay safe, folks!
