Phaedra Parks Announces She’s Finally Divorced and Ready for Her ‘New Chapter’

Phaedra Parks is ready to step out on her own -- again.

"I'm actually divorced," Phaedra reveals exclusively to ET. "I am done … it was very anticlimactic, shall I say? No one gets married to end in divorce, so it's bittersweet."

Phaedra had been pursuing that divorce from now ex-husband Apollo Nida since 2014, when he began serving an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to bank fraud. Now, the 43-year-old tells ET the split is official and she's looking forward to her future.

"It's been a very long, hectic process, but at the end of the day, I'm excited to start a new chapter in my life," she shares. "We were a family. This is pretty much the death of that family unit, so it's sad … but at the same time, it's giving me a new beginning."

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star's focus right now is on her and Apollo's sons, 6-year-old Ayden and 3-year-old Dylan, whom she says are doing "really good."

"Apollo and I, obviously, are going to be connected through our wonderful children through the rest of our lives," Phaedra adds. "I try to keep him in the loop as much as possible, because he obviously is in prison. I'm very cognizant that he wants to be a father ... and when he reaches out and calls, we try to make sure there's an open line of communication with the boys."

The lawyer says she's not even thinking about dating at the moment, but she also hasn't given up on love.

"I'm anxious for nothing," Phaedra jokes. "I will probably date at some point, but right now I'm just letting it all soak in, the newness of it. You know, if you date me, you date the boys. We come as a big threesome!"

"The perfect guy would be a god-fearing guy, a guy who loves children -- a guy who loves my sons as much as I do -- someone who's generous, smart, witty," she adds. "You know, me with a penis."

"I'll definitely get married again," Phaedra confesses. "To know love is better than to not know love. I mean, love is awesome and … I'm very optimistic that there is Prince Charming, Mr. Perfect, Mr. Right."

The reality star-turned-mortician is also focused on the all-new season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, which she promises will be "explosive, figuratively and literally."

Phaedra was the target of a bomb threat over the summer, and the aftermath of that incident will play out on upcoming episodes.

"It was a very traumatic experience," she reflects. "You know, it was a very scary situation. I wasn't in town at the time, I was actually at the [Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia]. I won't give too many details away, but you'll have to tune in because it is very... interesting, in a scary way."

There will, of course, be friendship troubles and some fun this year, as well as a look into Phaedra's work as an activist. Along with speaking at the DNC as a Hillary Clinton surrogate, Phaedra and co-star Kenya Moore traveled to Flint, Michigan, to help with the water crisis.

"I think to be well-balanced you gotta show more than drama sometimes," Phaedra says. "We have plenty of drama, as you well know. There's no shortage of that on this show!"

The Real Housewives of Atlanta returns to Bravo for season nine on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. ET. Phaedra's co-star, Cynthia Bailey, recently opened up ET about what we can expect from her this season. Hear what she had to say in the video below.
