Evil Dead Director Almost Helmed A Marvel Movie

It turns out that Fede Alvarez was in talks to direct a Marvel movie.

During an interview with ScreenRant, the 38-year-old filmmaker and director of the 2013 ‘Evil Dead’ reboot revealed that he was in early talks to make a Marvel superhero movie.

“A lot of those movies are cool and audiences are going and watching them,” he said. But ultimately, he couldn’t be swayed for creative reasons. “It’s just as a director it’s harder to have your vision in those, if you go and do a Marvel movie…”

Of course, he’s not the first director to speak out about Marvel’s way of making movies… but for Fede Alvarez, he just couldn’t give up creative control.

And it sounds as though he made the right choice.

“At some point we were in conversations and… they already figured it out,” he explained. “They’ve figured out the style. They’ve figured out the way they shoot them. They’ve figured out the colors, the humor. What would I do? I enjoy a lot more freedom than that.”

“I don’t know,” he added. “Eventually I might. And it depends on probably the characters in the stories. But just something about my job as a director that I really enjoy is creating my own thing. It’s trying to do my own style when I shoot it and set the tone myself… Evil Dead was a challenge in that aspect.”

But which movie was he going to direct?

Apparently, these discussions took place following the release of his ‘Evil Dead’ reboot… and given his horror leanings, it seems logical that he was probably up for the job of helming the upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’ movie.

Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be pressed.

Either way, it looks as though Alvarez won’t be directing a Marvel movie anytime soon.
