Every time the Duchess of Cambridge has played sport in heels

Words by Krista Thurrott.

Ditching sensible footwear seems to be a requirement when you’re a royal – even Meghan Markle has been known to don some pretty spectacular stilettos for less-conventional engagements. But the Duchess of Cambridge has proven she is the pioneer of fancy footwear in unlikely scenarios.

Recently making headlines for unexpectedly playing tennis in heeled booties, this isn’t the first time the Kate kept her footwear fashion in check while being at the top of her sports game.

One of the most important things the Duchess of Cambridge teaches her children

While on a royal visit to Coach Core Essex, Middleton and Prince William met with students to talk about sports — but it was when the Duchess took to the courts in her heeled, black booties that she gained some serious respect. (Photo via Getty Images)

Bringing her A-game to the archery field, Middleton sported pointed-toe pumps while trying her hand at archery on a royal tour of India and Bhutan. Pairing her heels with a colourful wrap skirt and Paul & Joe cape, the Duchess of Cambridge proved she may not have the best aim – but she’ll look good regardless. (Photo via Getty Images)

While most prefer cleats when playing soccer, Middleton proved royals do it different: wearing wedges for a game of soccer with children from three different Mumbai charities. Proving her competitive spirit, the Duchess didn’t hold back from kicking and passing the soccer ball. (Photo via Getty Images)

On a three-week tour of Australia and Nwew Zealand, Middleton took part in cricket match while wearing, you guessed it, pumps. On the first official overseas trip with Prince George in 2014, the royal wore a red peplum skirt suit on the pitch with a pair of classic, black heels. (Photo via Getty Images)

Middleton also proves that giving birth didn’t cramp her style. Three months after giving birth to Prince George, the Duchess was playing volleyball with young athlete. Sporting a blazer from Canadian brand Smythe, the Duchess finished off the look with jeans with cork-soled wedges. (Photo via Getty Images)

Proving heels have always been her go-to, a six-months pregnant Middleton didn’t shy from sporting a pair of heeled boots in an intense game of ping pong with Prince William while in Scotland. (Photo via Getty Images)
