Free transfers are becoming more common in football and some Premier League stars have now entered the final weeks of their contracts.
While some players have a contract offer on the table and are weighing up their options, others have been deemed surplus to requirements.
We’ve taken a look at every Premier League player whose contract is currently set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season.
Note: an asterisk indicates that the club have the option to extend the player’s contract for another year but have not yet activated it.
Nelson has reportedly rejected a contract offer from Arsenal while Maitland-Niles has already confirmed that he’ll end his 20-year association with the club at the end of the season.
“It’s been a great journey but it has come to an end now,” he told The Athletic. “It’s time for a fresh start and to find a new home.”
Young, who turns 38 in July, is reportedly interested in extending his Villa Park stay for another year and manager Unai Emery sees the benefit of keeping him in the squad.
“I know his contract is finishing [in the summer],” Emery said. “I spoke with him and we are going to decide but I am happy with him. He uses his experiences helping the team and I appreciate it a lot.”
Zemura has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Udinese and Lerma is attracting interest from several Premier League and European clubs.
Brentford will have a new captain next season as Jansson has confirmed that he’ll rejoin boyhood club Malmo when his contract expires in June.

While Roberto De Zerbi wants to extend Veltman’s stay at Brighton, the defender is yet to sign a new deal amid reported interest from Barcelona and Roma.
“I am happy, but I am also open to other options,” he told Voetbal International. “I’m having a good time in England, but Italy or Spain would be nice.”
Kante has been linked with several teams from the Saudi Pro League but Chelsea are reportedly hopeful that the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino can persuade the midfielder to sign a new contract at the club.
Zaha is attracting interest from across the world but Palace have offered the winger a new four-year contract worth £200,000-a-week in a final attempt to keep him at Selhurst Park.
Mina cost Everton £27m in 2018 but his time on Merseyside has been plagued by injury problems and they have reportedly decided not to enter talks with the defender over extending his £120,000-a-week deal.
Willian joined Fulham on a one-year contract last summer and his impressive performances look to have earned him a new deal.
“I definitely want him to stay,” Marco Silva said. “He is a priority for us to renew. Of course, he has been pleased with this season, like I have been with him, as we as a club have been with him. He has been an important part of our squad and I know that he is pleased and happy here.”
Forshaw and Robles both made rare starts during Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge and will be hoping to earn new contracts before the end of the season.
Soyuncu is expected to sign a pre-contract agreement to join Atletico Madrid at the end of the season while a number of teams have been credited with an interest in Tielemans.
Firmino has officially confirmed that he’ll leave Liverpool at the end of this season while Milner has reportedly agreed to join Brighton on a one-year deal.
Gundogan has a contract offer from Barcelona on the table but is yet to accept it and could still extend his stay at the Etihad.
“There are talks, there are talks in the background,” Gundogan said. “That’s normal with a couple of months left. There’s nothing decided yet, not from my side, not from the club’s side — the talks, they continue.”

United decided not to trigger the 12-month extension in De Gea’s contract but have reportedly finalised a new long-term contract for the goalkeeper on a reduced pay packet.
