30 Sep – Evergreen Mak and wife Allison Lam have recently failed to get an injunction against a certain Wong Mei Fong due to lack of direct evidence.
As reported on Mingpao, the judge in the case described in the verdict that while Mak was frank and honest in giving evidence, they have reservations when it comes to some of his information.
As for Mak's claims that the defendant had been harassing TVB staff and Mak's endorsement brand On Kee, the judge pointed out that the said incident lacked CCTV footage, eyewitnesses or photo evidence to support his statement, nor did Mak request TVB to surrender any CCTV footage involved in the case through legal procedures.
The judge then ruled that Mak had lost the case for failing to prove that the defendant harassed and made defamatory remarks against him.
Speaking to the media about the result, Mak stated that the matter has finally come to an end and that everybody have settled their scores.
"I filed the lawsuit because someone accused me of lying and that we owed them millions. The lawsuit was to prove my innocence. The issue has already gone on for so many years and it really exhausted me physically and mentally," he said.
The issue sparked as early as 2014, when Mak's wife was scammed into investing approximately HKD 14 million into a project that turned out to be a black-market iPhone business. The other party later conned another person into investing in the business. Angered by the investment fraud, the other person (Wong) demanded that Mak and his wife to repay them an amount totaling HKD 1.18 million, and allegedly proceeded to harass the staff of TVB and Mak's endorsement brand On Kee in the process, causing him to lose the contract with the latter.
