Erik Matti wants a progressive costume for Darna

The filmmaker says that the costume shouldn't just look sexy and pretty, but be functional as well

20 Jul - Modern, contemporary, and progressive. Those are the three words used by director Erik Matti in describing the new design for Darna's costume.

As reported on Push, the director, who has been repeatedly asked about the costume since he announced the relatively young Liza Soberano's casting as the female superhero, said that they are trying to achieve a look that was envisioned in the comic book.

"I think the bottom line is, after 23 to 24 years of not having Darna on the [big] screen, I think she should be presented in the best superhero look possible and whatever it is that we love about the Darna costume," he said.

Matti added that the costume should not just look pretty and sexy, but be functional as well, that it should be logical to come out from Narda to Darna.

He acknowledged the many beautiful designs shared online by fans of the female superhero, but stated that the studio is going with a totally different style.

"It's more than just aesthetic. It's more than just cosmetic. It's more than just trying to be sexy. It really should be the functional characteristic of a costume for a superhero," he said.
