Erik Matti unimpressed with "Crazy Rich Asians"

16 Nov – The movie may be the highest-grossing romantic comedy in a decade and received praises from many critics, but according to Filipino filmmaker Erik Matti, "Crazy Rich Asians" is not worthy of all its praise.

As reported on PEP, the director, known for films like "BuyBust" and "Honor Thy Father", recently took to Instagram to give his two cents about the Constance Wu-starrer.

He wrote, "No matter how successful this ["Crazy Rich Asians'] movie is, it's still just a piece of old school 90's style TV movie. Caricature acting, white man's view on Asians, cliché insights wrapped in flashy modern parties, tita sensibilities, bad direction."

He also claimed that the movie is not as great as another romance film, the 1990 Garry Marshall film, "Pretty Woman".

"But who can argue with success? That's why everyone here I think wants to make a version of this here," he added.

On the other hand, it was revealed that Matti himself will soon begin the production of a new movie starring "Heneral Luna" actor John Arcilla.
