13 Jun – Filmmaker Erik Matti recently defended Liza Soberano over continuous criticisms from netizens who believe that the actress is not the right choice to play the female superhero "Darna".
As reported on ABS-CBN, Matti, who is helming the big budget project, stated that he has already seen Soberano in full costume and believes that people will stop making negative comments once they see the actress in action.
Matti likened the situation to when Daniel Craig was chosen to be James Bond and was unjustifiably compared to Sean Connery.
"When he came out, everyone believed him. I think the bashing won't stop until they see her and believe that she is the perfect Darna," he said.
He continued, "We need to see her in full physical form. There have been a lot of changes from a year ago when we started, and that is because of Liza's dedication. She had to forgo a lot of things."
The director added that they have already done several look tests both for Soberano as Darna and her human form Narda, adding that the new costume will have all of its elements while reflecting Darna as a fighter/saviour as well.
