Erik Matti says Angel's "Darna" departure is unfortunate

The "Darna" director says it was regrettable, but that the decision was good for everybody

22 Mar - "Darna" director Erik Matti admitted that it was regrettable that Angel Locsin could not reprise her role as the female superhero, especially after so much effort was made in order for her to play the character again.

As reported on Sunstar, Matti, who spoke to the media after Locsin's final withdrawal made the news, stated that it was the best decision for everybody, even though it was unfortunate.

"The project entails a lot of physical requirement from the actor. There is going to be a lot of fight and harness work. We just don't want to cause her any risk," said Matti.

"Too bad, because she could have made a very good Darna," he added.

Star Cinema recently released a statement regarding the issue, saying that Locsin, who withdrew from the project in 2015 due to her spinal problem, was still in pain during her latest training.

No news for now as to who will replace her as the iconic superhero. However, a lot of actresses, from Jessy Mendiola, Nadine Lustre, to Maja Salvador, have expressed their interest in the role.

Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach also gave a positive answer when asked by a fan if she would play the role if it was offered to her.

"Yes, I would love to play the Filipina version of Superwoman! Darna!," she responded on Twitter.
