EPIX Sets Premiere Date For ‘Berlin Station’ & ‘Graves’, Taps Alan Coulter To Direct ‘Get Shorty’ – TCA
As EPIX is entering the original scripted space with three series from each of its co-owners, Lionsgate, MGM and Paramount, the premium network/SVOD service made its TCA debut. At the top of the EPIX presentation, the network’s co-founder/CEO Mark Greenberg announced that EPIX’s first original scripted series, contemporary spy thriller drama Berlin Station from Paramount TV and comedy Graves from Lionsgate TV, will both premiere Oct. 16. The likely rationale is that launching two series at the same time makes a larger impact, instantly creating a night of original programming for a network that is looking to break into the crowded scripted arena.
The third EPIX original scripted series, an adaptation of the movie Get Shorty from MGM TV, is still in pre-production. It has tapped veteran TV director Alan Colter (The Sopranos, Damages) to direct the opening episode.
In his opening remarks, Greenberg noted that original scripted series were a key part of his initial plan for EPIX nine years ago, and now that has become a reality.
Greenberg stressed the timeliness of political satire Graves, in which twenty years after his presidency, a former President played by Nick Nolte decides to right all the wrongs he has done.
“It could be viewed as art imitating life or life imitating art,” he said.
