Emily Ratajkowski has shared a very personal post about self-confidence in the age of social media.
The model/actress recently posted a throwback snap on Instagram, with the picture showing her posing on a beach in two-piece at the age of 14. In the accompanying caption, Emily explained that she has a complicated relationship with the photograph.
"I used to like showing people this photo of me at 14 to prove that my body is natural," she wrote, noting that she is a "little sad" that the photo even exists. "I was just a kid in this picture and I wish the world had encouraged my 14-year-old self to be more than just my body."
However, Emily noted that she now feels empowered by her body and sexuality.
"Luckily I have discovered the parts of me that are so much more important than 'sexiness', but if you're a 14-year-old girl reading this, don't worry about any of that for now," the 28-year-old added. "Read lots of books and know that what you see on Instagram is just a very small fraction of complete and beautifully complex human beings."
The Gone Girl star has always used her platform to share her thoughts on body positivity and being a feminist, and in an essay for Glamour magazine back in 2016, she touched upon how women are sexualised at a young age.
"Our society tells women we can't be, say, sexy and confident and opinionated about politics," she wrote. "This would allow us too much power. Instead, our society asks us to declare and defend our motivations, which makes us second-guess them, all while men do what they please without question."
