Last night (March 8) was extra special for Ellie Goulding, not only because it marked the start of her Delerium tour in the UK, but because it was the first time her estranged father had seen her perform.
Dad Arthur walked out on Ellie’s family when she was five years old.
Ellie has since written a moving song about her dad - ‘I Know You Care’, from her Halcyon album.
According to The Mirror, the singer met with her dad before her gig at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena, with the two reuniting at a family christening in December and staying in touch since.
Before that, they had not spoken to each other since reuniting when she was 19.
Speaking to The Sun ahead of her Cardiff gig, Ellie admitting she was nervous, saying: “I’m nervous for tonight, as I love coming home. Cardiff is the closest venue to home and really close to my heart.
“Dad’s never seen a show before. This is his first time, which I’m really genuinely shocked and happy about. We’ve forgotten the past.”
Back in 2014, Ellie admitted how her dad’s actions had affected her, explaining: “I did find it hard to trust people when my dad left. Particularly men. Song writing is a form of therapy, I think.”
