Ellen Pompeo Gives Rare Details About the Future of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

From Cosmopolitan

Grey’s Anatomy can’t go on forever, even though I kinda wish it would. Ellen Pompeo is giving more hints that the long-running medical drama will end soon. Like, really soon. In a recent interview, she got candid about what’s happening behind the scenes.

The interviewer, CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith, asked Ellen, “Are you looking now—and I’m not trying to make you give anything away—but are you?” The question is presumably about whether Ellen is looking for another show or movie to work on once Grey’s wraps…for good. “Yes, you are!” Ellen responded, smiling. Okay, she totally was. But someone’s gotta ask the tough questions!

“I can’t say. Can’t say,” Ellen continued. “We honestly have not decided. We’re really trying to figure it out right now.” To which Smith continued to do the good work of pressing for more deets. “You’re in the middle of deciding whether it ends or it doesn’t end?” she asked.

Ellen admitted that, yep, they’re trying to come up with a way to end the series. “Yes. It’s, what story do we tell?” she explained. “To end a show this iconic, you know, how do we do it? I just want to make sure we do this character and this show and the fans—I want to make sure we do it right.”

She’s played the titular character, Meredith Grey, for 17 seasons. After it ends, what will she do? Take on a new role? Take a much-needed vacay? Hang out with her hubby and adorable three kids?

“I looked at myself as if I was in a box when I was 35 years old,” she said of always being associated with Grey’s. “Now I’m 50, and I would never look at myself that way again. So, with age comes wisdom.”

She added, “And now, how do I see it? Well, I can do anything I want. Or not do anything at all!”

She’s definitely earned it!
