Jimmy Kimmel makes America laugh every night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but there's one topic that always brings the late-night host to tears: the health of his 10-month-old son, Billy.

Just one month after Billy's birth, Kimmel shared with viewers that his newborn son has a heart condition that required him to go through open heart surgery. "[Nurses] determined he wasn't getting enough oxygen in his blood, either in his heart or lungs. It's a terrifying thing, you know?," Kimmel said in May 2017.

On Tuesday, Kimmel appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to thank DeGeneres for her generosity during such a difficult time. "You and your viewers raised a million dollars, which meant a lot to us," Kimmel said. "Thank you."

"You're such a great guy and that was so emotional to see you go through that," DeGeneres responded.

The talk show hosts then commented on how easy it is for Kimmel to cry. He recently teared up when discussing the Florida school shooting that claimed the lives of 17 people.

"You get very emotional and I love that about you," DeGeneres said. "It's embarrassing to me," Kimmel laughed, adding that he tries his best to hold back the tears by pinching his hand, but that it never works.

DeGeneres then said she had a surprise for Kimmel - one that would eventually lead to more waterworks. "We called our friends at Children's Hospital LA," she told him. "We have named one of the rooms of the Heart Institute floor in honor of Billy."

A video then appeared on the screen that showed Billy's former doctor and nurses, and a door that read "In Honor of Billy Kimmel" in the cardiology department. "Wow!" Kimmel said.

"That will forever be the Billy Kimmel room," DeGeneres said, adding that some of Billy's nurses were also in the room. "You should be at work!" Kimmel joked.
