I always leave town with mixed feelings; I love how everything is so conveniently located in one place, but I hate looking into my wallet after — especially if I have a meal or two there.

Thankfully, eGrill & Piza is here to save you from burning a hole in your pocket if you’re hanging out around town with your friends.

The restaurant serves affordable Japanese-style pizza and skewers bundle, consisting of two decently sized pizzas and two skewers for $36.80, to be shared amongst four people. That’s only $9.20 a person!

We started off with the Smoked Salmon Salad ($3.80 ala carte), which was a typical Japanese-styled salad; plenty of fresh and crunchy greens, topped off with a tangy sesame sauce and smoked salmon that wasn’t too overpowering in taste.

The Truffle Fries with Truffle Salsa ($8.80 ala carte) was delicious. Crisp fries with a hint of truffle, paired with a creamy truffle salsa that was also infused with a prominent taste of truffle.

The Salmon Mentai Pizza and Spicy Teriyaki Chicken Pizza ($15.90 each ala carte) were big enough to be shared amongst four people, and we still couldn’t finish everything — eGrill & Piza certainly weren’t exaggerating when they said that two pizzas and two skewers could feed four people.

The Salmon Mentai Pizza came with creamy topping of mentaiko and mayo, and the bonito flakes on top provided a nice hit of umami. The salmon was minced, so fret not if you don’t see whole slices of salmon atop the pizza.

The Spicy Teriyaki Chicken Pizza had a nice spicy kick, and the chicken chunks were extremely tender and paired well with the sweetness from the teriyaki sauce. The crust was one thing I enjoyed, it was crisp and not at all doughy.

Another interesting aspect of eGrill & Piza is their usage of a eGrill machine — the first place in Singapore to use the machine. Specially imported from Hong Kong, it utilises no oil in the grilling process.

At first, I was pretty skeptical that the skewers would turn out anything but dry, especially the beef meatballs and mackerel, but I was totally proven wrong.

The Salmon Belly Fin Skewer ($3.90 ala carte) was pretty amazing, with a sweet glaze and crisp skin, it certainly didn’t feel like it was grilled without oil. One downside for this skewer is that there is a big piece of bone in the middle, along with some slightly smaller chunks by the side, so make sure you get it all out before chowing down.

My favourite would be the Grilled Mackerel Skewer ($3.90 ala carte). The fish was moist and juicy, which blew my mind, considering that it was grilled without any oil at all.

The Beef Meatball Skewer ($3.90 ala carte) was also good. Again, it defied my expectations and was really tender and juicy. The sprinkling of seaweed on the top gave it a nice flavour and aroma.

Don’t miss out on the Shrimp Paste Chicken Skewers ($3.90 ala carte). Right off the bat, my first impression was that it had a strong lemongrass taste, but as that subsided, the taste of the chicken came through along with the taste of the shrimp.

I went in hungry, and I came out full to the brim. For $9.20 per pax (in group of four), I don’t think I could have gotten this much good food anywhere else nearby.

Things get even cheaper if you come with five other friends; three pizzas and three skewers go for $52.80, which means one person only pays $8.80. Now there’s no reason to turn down a hang out session in town again!

Expected damage: $8.80 – $10 per pax
