Though these ingredients are often included in easily accessible, over-the-counter dietary supplements, they can actually lead to dizziness, cancer, cardiac arrest, organ failure, seizures, and heart arrhythmia, among other health issues.

It’s not groundbreaking medical news that dietary supplements can be falsely advertised or cause potential health risks. Unfortunately, supplements are not well regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. However, according to Women’s Health, more doctors within the medical community are working together to educate the public.

Reading labels isn’t enough, and neither is a light google search. It’s important to take note of your pre-existing health conditions and any medications you may be taking when you consider taking dietary supplements. Even if green tea powder extract sounds healthy, its interaction with other chemicals in your system could lead to potential health risks. It is imperative that people who want to supplement their diet consult their doctors before making any online or over-the-counter purchases.
