Edison Chen had always wanted to change himself

13 Oct - Although many believed that having a baby was what changed Hong Kong bad boy Edison Chen; in reality, he has always wanted to change.

In an interview with Forbes recently, Edison admitted that the 2007 sex tape scandal was the most regretful thing he has ever done in his life, and that it has cost him several years of his life.

According to Tencent, the actor shared that he received several death threats while in hiding in Los Angeles and was too afraid to go out.

"The most painful was when I looked at my own reflection in the mirror. I hated myself. I wonder how did I become such a person," he said.

Edison said that after three months in hiding, he decided to do some charity work, but was told by the organisers that he shouldn't come due to his negative image. He admitted that it caused him to question God for not believing in him, for letting such things happen to him.

However, the actor said that the scandal was also a wake-up call to his previous careless lifestyle, where he would spend money, going from one woman to another, and living life like there is no tomorrow.

"When it happened, everything was ruined. I needed time to adapt, to find myself," he said.

It also strengthened his relationship with sister, Tricia Chen, who came to Los Angeles to live with him.

On the other hand, Tricia Chen admitted that Edison has now become a different man since the birth of daughter Alaia.

"Aside from work, he will always put Alaia and [partner] Qin Shupei first. Although they are not married, we already accepted Shupei as one of our own," she said.
