‘Edge of Seventeen’ Named as Centerpiece Selection at Austin Film Festival

The Austin Film Festival and Screenwriters Conference has announced that the STX coming of age-comedy “Edge of Seventeen” will screen as the centerpiece selection on Oct. 17.

James L. Brooks will attend the screening of the pic, on which he is a producer.

Brooks, whose previous producing credits include “Jerry Maguire” and “The Simpsons Movie,” will present the film and take part in a Q&A afterwards.

“Edge of Seventeen” centers around lonely high school junior Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld) who forms an unlikely friendship with awkward admirer Erwin Kim (Hayden Szeto). The film also stars Woody Harrelson as Nadine’s history teacher.

Writer-director Ben Younger will also be present in Austin for a screening of his film “Bleed for This,” which stars Miles Teller as struggling boxer Vinny Paz and Aaron Eckhart as his coach. The film is based on the story of Paz, who went on to become world champion.

“Bleed for This” is Younger’s first feature since 2005’s “Prime,” and will close the festival in Austin.

The festival’s lineup also includes “Gravity” writer Jonás Cuarón’s “Desierto” and road trip drama “Youth in Oregon,” starring Frank Langella, Christina Applegate, and Billy Crudup.
