Eddie Garcia Law gets house committee approval

2 Sep – Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson Liza Diño-Seguerra recently revealed that the Actors Occupational Safety and Health Standard Bill (aka the Eddie Garcia Law) has recently passed the labour and employment panel.

As reported on ABS-CBN, the law which requires all productions to ensure the safety of entertainment industry workers and to provide mandatory insurance coverage and medical personnel, was previously co-authored by 1-PACMAN party-list Rep. Michael Romero, who is also the stepson of the said veteran actor.

Aside from the said rule, the measure also sets standard working hours for various age brackets, and requires the corporation or producer to pay for the full hospital bill of its employees' and loss of livelihood until they are able to work again.

Garcia passed away in June last year after tripping on a cable wire and fell on the set of the GMA series, "Rosang Agimat".

He was 90.
